We’ve got you covered! This region of Upstate New York, includes Monroe, Kiryas Yoel, Chester, Woodbury, Harriman, and its nearby towns, and aside from being a beautiful, scenic place to live, is a great vacation destination where you’ll find something to do for everyone – whole families, couples, even ideas that allow you to bring along strollers or Zaidy and Bubby.

Here’s a list of activities and things to do, much of which are open year-round. Just do yourself a favor and call ahead to ensure the places are open and accessible for your vacation.

Ruach Hachhayim Park

Very interesting park, built for and by the heimish community. Great playgrounds for kids, really great! Big slides, good swings, climbing activities, sand boxes, merry go round, and even a little zip line!

Lots of interesting climbing equipment that are more stimulating and unique compared to most parks.

There are 4 sections, 2 each for older and younger children, and specific areas for boys and girls.

They have some very cool playground equipment for the older children.

The Castle Fun Center and Amusement Park

A trip for the whole family!

The areas most complete full-service mid-sized Amusement center, featuring skating, mini golf, rock climbing, laser tag, an arcade, seasonal go-karts & more.

Museum Village of Old Smith's

1010 NY-17M, Monroe, NY 10950

Family friendly and great for Bubbies and Zaidies too. Replica village exploring daily life in the 19th century through historical dress & reenactments.

Gonzaga Park

Highland Mills, NY 10930

Nice place, small lake, flat soccer fields and loads of quiet. Interesting ruins of old structures to explore. Beautiful hiking trails but some of the climbing can be steep. Well taken care of park and marked trails, breathtaking views from the top of the mountain where you can see the whole surrounding area. Beautiful sunsets, awesome for התבודדות.

LEGOLAND New York Amusement Resort, Goshen, NY

Harriman State Park

800 Kanawauke Rd, Southfields, NY 10975

One of the largest state parks in the area, with many sections worth visiting. Most beautiful hiking in the area with something for everyone. Spring, Summer, Fall or even Wintertime for a real winter wonderland. Many trails, differing levels of difficulty, incredibly beautiful and quiet. The Appalachian trail runs through here, and the memorable lemon squeezer is here, and a fun and exciting challenge to pass through. Great place for hiking, relaxing, and photography. Has some good nice spots to stop by and enjoy the views while driving through as well.

Mount Peter Ski Area

181 Galli Curci Rd, Highmount, NY 12441

Mount Peter is the oldest operating ski area in New York State, and one of only a few remaining family-operated ski areas in America. Long-running family-friendly skiing, Snow tubing & snowboarding area, free beginners ski school, as well as paid lessons & equipment rentals. Ski or snowboard on13 expertly groomed trails, hurtle along the 600-foot snowtubing runs, Mount Peter has all the fun of the bigger resorts in a smaller, nearby setting perfect for youger families or a quick break on the slopes.

Bear Mountian State Park

Route 9W North, Bear Mountain, NY 10911

Lush, mountainous park featuring picnic sites, fishing areas, a swimming pool, trails & more. Bear Mountain State Park is situated in rugged mountains rising from the west bank of the Hudson River. The park features a large play field, shaded picnic groves, lake and river fishing access, a swimming pool, Trailside Museums and Zoo, hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails. An outdoor ice skating rink is open to ice skaters from late October through mid-March. The Perkins Memorial Tower atop Bear Mountain affords spectacular views of the park, the Hudson Highlands and Harriman State Park. Perkins Memorial Drive and Tower are open from April through late November, weather permitting.

The Merry-Go-Round at Bear Mountain State Park features hand painted scenes of the park an 42 hand carved seats of native animals including black bear, wild turkey, deer, raccoon, skunk, Canada goose, fox, swan, bobcat, rabbit and more.

Trailside Museums and Bear Mountain Zoo

Open every day year round, except on certain holidays. Trailside Admission: $1/person suggested donation

Trailside Museums & Zoo will bring you up-close to resident wildlife. There are mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. The animals are all native to New York State. Most of the animals are unable to live in the wild. Many have suffered permanent injuries and are disabled. Others were orphaned before their parents were able to teach them how to live independently. The woodlands and gardens offer visitors a stunning and biologically diverse landscape. The overarching structure is oak-hickory woodland.

Parking: Park at Bear Mountain State Park. Daily fee $10/vehicle in summer, weekends & holidays year-round. Allow 20 minutes to walk from parking to Trailside. Allow 1 to 2 hours for your visit.
